The Native Plant Garden in Union Square Park, NYC, is the only public garden of its kind in New York, and has become a tiny woodland retreat in the heart of our city.

Native plants have much to teach us about New York’s ecology and our natural history.  The indigenous flora also provides great benefits to all life around them, from birds to humans.

You are invited to visit The Native Plant Garden. Experience peace in nature within the rush of the 14th Street/Union Square area of Manhattan.  Observe the birds eating the native plants they desire.  See the leaves soaking up the Sun to sustain themselves and their ecological system, which includes us.

There is a path through the garden so you can walk around without disturbing the plants.

The flora looks forward to your visit!

The garden is open to the public whenever Union Square Park is open.

At times there will be scheduled events, such as an afternoon of volunteering or a botany class, and these will usually last only a few hours.

Students from nearby schools will visit the garden often this spring.  They will learn about how the plants live and interact with the world, as well as how to care for the garden as one ecosystem.
